AdSense In My Forum, Yes Or No ?

You have build a forum on you favorite subject. You told all your friends about it, and tell told theirs and after a while you are getting lots of traffic. Happy as you are, you are starting to see that in this rate your bandwidth will cost you a lot of money, money that you can’t afford. You don’t want to charge you visitors for using your forums but you need  an extra income to buy the bandwidth. You are thinking to add AdSense ads in order to finance you bills.

is it right to put AdSense ads in a forum ?

First this is not a black or white question, and it’s very depend on the forum type, and the location of the AdSense ads.

Ask yourself a this few subjects to understand what is right answer for you.

Freedom of user content Vs Google AdSense rules

When you managing a forum your visitors have a freedom to write all they want, you moderate them but at the end they can write everything.
Some of the posts in the forum can be against Google AdSense rules, and from google point of view, you are responsible for it.
In such a case you could be banned from Google AdSense program with even knowing why.

Will your visitors accepts the new AdSense addition ?

Your visitors are not used to see ads in the forum, probably some of them will think you are earning a lot of money on their expanse.

If they are involved they might even send you a message to let you their opinion and some of them will leave your forum.

Blindness from the visitors eyes

Because AdSense ads will be always in the same place, the visitors eyes are becoming blinds to them and will not even see them. Some Forums managers reports on a very low CTR from their Google AdSense and some even report a 0% CTR.

Relevant ads to the forum subject

Your forum as unique as it be may contain a lot of subjects. Google AdSense robots will have difficult time to understand and display relevant ads in your forum.
Because your visitors came to your  forum interested  in the  subject of the forum, the non-relevant AdSense ads will  not be attractive for them.
You will see a very low CTR even though you have a lot of traffic.

Conclusion:

A forum can make about 0$-100$ from AdSense ads, this can’t be use for an extra income, or planing your next vacation in Miami, but it defentaliy can pay the bills.
